We decided to mix it up and record all of us trying a “new” product…tofu. John and I have had tofu a couple of times, but the kids have not. So, we thought it would be fun to do a taste test!
When we were away at the beach one of our friends follows a vegetarian diet for a variety of reasons. It gave us motivation to try some new meatless protein sources. Here’s some benefits of incorporating tofu in your nutrition world:
Nutrient-Rich: Tofu is a good source of protein as well as micronutrients including calcium, iron, magnesium, and vitamin B12 (if fortified).
Low in Calories: Tofu is relatively low in calories, making it a good option for those looking to manage their weight.
Heart Health: Tofu contains compounds called isoflavones, which may help lower cholesterol levels and improve heart health. It also is low in saturated fats and high in unsaturated fats (healthy fats) that can be beneficial for cardiovascular health.
Bone Health: The calcium and magnesium in tofu can contribute to maintaining healthy bones.
Digestive Health: Tofu is a good source of fiber, which can aid in digestion and promote a healthy gut.
Versatility: Tofu can be used in a wide variety of ways and can be prepared in many ways, such as grilling, stir-frying, blending, or baking.
The kids were troopers and gave it a try. Watch below to see who votes “yes” and who says “no thank you”.
