We Can Learn a Lot from Our Little Ones

I posted a short video on Thursday of my daughter, Charlotte dancing—and like most parents, I’ve probably watched it more times than I’d like to admit. In part, because she’s my daughter, but part is because there’s just something about it that makes you smile (minus my cameo).

The more I’ve replayed it, though, the more I’ve realized there’s a simple lesson in it.

Kids don’t overthink things. They don’t hesitate or wait for the perfect moment. They just jump in. Whether it’s dancing, trying something new, or simply being themselves, they move without the weight of over analysis holding them back.

Somewhere along the way, we lose that.

Or maybe we don’t lose it entirely—it just becomes quieter. It gets pushed to the background as responsibilities and expectations grow, and we start to think through every possible outcome before taking a step forward. What once felt natural starts to feel calculated.

But if you’re honest, it’s still there.

All of us have areas in our lives where we know what we should be doing—we’re just not doing it. We think about it. We plan it. We wait for the “right” time. Whether it’s prioritizing our health, reaching out to someone we care about, starting something we’ve been putting off, or simply being more present, the issue is rarely about knowing what we should do. It’s about doing it!

That’s what stood out to me watching that video.

There was no hesitation. No second-guessing. Just movement, joy, and action.

And maybe that’s the reminder we need more often.

Less thinking. More action.

Not reckless action, but intentional steps forward in the areas that matter most. The kind of action that moves your life in the right direction, even if it’s small. Because more often than not, clarity doesn’t come before action—it comes from it.

So let this week’s video be a simple nudge. Take a step toward something you’ve been overthinking. Start the workout. Send the message. Have the conversation. Begin the project.

And if the opportunity calls for it, allow a little dancing into your life as well.

Because sometimes, the best thing we can do isn’t to think more—it’s to act!
